Mike Lohman

From Ironman to Strongman- A Lifetime of Strength & Coaching

Mike Lohman is a lifelong athlete and strength coach from the Chicago area. A former football player and wrestler at Naperville Central and DePauw University, he’s been lifting since age 14 and has competed in over 25 triathlons, including an Ironman. In 2011, Mike shifted his focus to strongman, where he went on to place in dozens of local, regional, and national contests—including 5th at the 2019 USS Nationals (Masters Heavyweight 50+).

From 2014–2017, he co-captained and anchored a corporate team in the Illinois Special Olympics Plane Pull, winning the Open Division and Grand Championship in 2016. Now “retired” from competition, Mike coaches several successful strongman athletes, including three national champions, and continues to promote the sport across the Midwest.

He’s the co-author of Mastering Strongman: A Training Guide for 40+ Athletes (2024) with two-time World Champion Ken McClelland. A NASM Certified Personal Trainer and Corrective Exercise Specialist, Mike also holds certifications from Functional Movement Systems, Onnit Academy, and Training for Warriors. His mission: help people of all ages become stronger, healthier versions of themselves.
